April is one of the best months to visit Mauritius. Cyclone season is over, rainfall drops to 130mm (compared with 200-230mm from January to March), and temperatures stay pleasant (21-29°C during the day, sea at 27°C). It's autumn in the southern hemisphere, a shoulder season with softer light and often clear skies.

Hotel rates start creeping up again this month, but they are still 15 to 25% cheaper on average than in July and August. It's a short but well-timed window if you want to avoid both the rainy season and the peak tourist season.

As for activities, April opens up every option: kitesurfing at Le Morne (the trade winds are picking up), a hike to the top of Le Morne Brabant (€44, in bearable temperatures) or a helicopter flight over the underwater waterfall (€729 for a scenic flight, usually under clear skies). It's also a good time for divers who are already certified (€50 for an exploration dive at Blue Bay).
