June is midwinter in Mauritius. Temperatures are at their lowest of the year (17-25°C during the day, water at 25°C), but it is still very mild compared with a European winter. Rainfall is around 75mm over an average of 7 days, skies are generally clear and there's no cyclone risk.

Hiking conditions are at their most comfortable: you can climb Le Morne Brabant or Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire (828m, the island's highest point) without risking heatstroke, and the Black River Gorges National Park is still lush after the humid summer. Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Mauritius in June

What's the weather like in Mauritius in June?
A comfortable winter: 17-25°C during the day (slightly cooler in the mornings inland), water at 25°C and around 75mm of rain over 7 days. Skies are generally clear, with a steady south-easterly trade wind of around 15-25 knots and no cyclone risk. Very stable weather, perfect if you hate surprises.
Is it cold in Mauritius in June?
Cool in the mornings and evenings (17-19°C inland, down to 14-15°C at altitude on top of Le Morne or Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire) but not cold. During the day on the coast, it stays around 23-25°C, with wind that can make it feel cooler. Pack a light fleece for the evenings and a windproof jacket for boat trips or helicopter flights. At 25°C the sea is still fine for swimming, but a shorty wetsuit is worth it for long snorkelling sessions.
What are the best things to do in Mauritius in June?
A hike up Le Morne Brabant (€44) or Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire (€42, the island's highest point at 828m): the weather is perfect for these tougher climbs. A helicopter flight (€729 panoramic with transfers) or a seaplane flight (€180 by microlight from Belle Mare, €215 by Cessna from Trou d'Eau Douce) under clear skies. Kitesurfing lessons at Le Morne (€87, steady trade wind). Horse riding along the Le Morne lagoon (€102, rated 5/5 from 12 reviews).
Can you dive in Mauritius in June?
Yes, the water is still 25°C in June. A 3mm wetsuit is recommended for long dives but not essential for a short try dive. Visibility in the Blue Bay marine park stays at 15-25m, as in high season. A try dive costs €80 at Blue Bay (rated 4/5 from 3 Manawa reviews), an exploration dive for certified divers €50 at the same spot, and a combined try dive plus 12m exploration dive at Grand Baie €123.
Are there any festivals in Mauritius in June?
Eid al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan) sometimes falls in June depending on the Islamic lunar calendar, and it's a major festival for Mauritius's Muslim community (around 17% of the population). Expect family meals and gift-giving, and it is a public holiday. Beyond that, there aren't many major cultural events in June: it is a month for the great outdoors.
Are hotels more expensive in June than in May in Mauritius?
Slightly, yes. Rates rise 10 to 15% compared with May as the European school holidays approach. 5-star resorts (Anantara, Constance, Long Beach, Hilton) cost around €330-400 a night, and 3-star hotels in the north (Maison du Nord, Toparadis) around €75-100 a night for two. That is still below the July and August peak, when the same hotels jump to €450-550 a night.
