Best hotels in Entre-Deux: one 4-star and a handful of charming homes

"Two arms, one heart": Entre-Deux's motto is a reminder that it sits between two arms of a river, the Bras de Cilaos and the Bras de la Plaine, 400 metres above the sea. A renovated 4-star hotel, two guesthouses, a Creole house and two holiday lets make up our list, each rated 8/10 or higher by Agoda guests.

You reach the village over a bridge about 150 m high. There's no beach here: Saint-Pierre and L'Étang-Salé are around twenty minutes away by car, and the dry season, May to November, is the best time for hiking.

The independent guide to planning your trip to Reunion Island

We bring together more than 470 partner activities (helicopter, paragliding, hiking, diving, whale-watching cruises, airport transfers...), a wide catalogue of hotels and gîtes, and dozens of practical guides. An independent site run by someone passionate about Reunion Island.

Perched 400 metres above Saint-Pierre, Entre-Deux is a village of verandas, hipped roofs and delicate carved fretwork. It's one of sixteen villages with the "Villages Créoles" label, and in 1998 became the first overseas "Station verte", a French label for green, rural destinations. Above the village, the Dimitile climbs to 1,850 metres and looks down into the Cilaos cirque.

Places to stay are few: a 4-star hotel renovated in 2024, a couple of guesthouses and some owner-run holiday lets. We've kept only those with a proper name and at least 8/10 on Agoda, with enough reviews for the score to mean something. A few other guesthouses in the village are mentioned further down.

Everything within about a kilometre

The village is compact: our picks are all within about a kilometre of the church and town hall. The further from the centre, the quieter it gets.

North of the village, towards Bras Long and rue Jean Lauret

Rue Cafre and rue Jean Lauret, 850 m to 1 km from the centre. Quieter, with views of the sea and mountains, and a proper climb back up ( over 100 m of height gain to Le Quéléa ).

Dimitile plateau

For hikers, the Là-Haut gîte offers beds and home-cooked dinners up on the plateau. It's only reachable on foot via the Dimitile trails, or by 4x4 with a permit, and is booked directly.

Practical tips

From Creole houses to the top of the Dimitile

The Creole houses trail

Allow about 45 minutes to loop around the houses in the centre, with their verandas and "lambrequins", the wood or metal fretwork that channels the rain. To hear the stories behind the facades, a guided village tour makes all the difference.

Hiking up the Dimitile

The Bœuf-La Chapelle trail is the easiest way up: about 5 hours return with 700 metres of climbing. Grande Jument is intermediate, and the Zèbre trail is among the toughest on the island. The Bayonne trail is closed by prefectoral order after a landslide, so check the ONF list of closed trails before you set off. The Camp Marron museum space at the top is closed for restoration.

Choca, the village plant

Entre-Deux also lives off its crops: coffee, coconut and above all choca, a plant of the agave family whose fibres are woven. The Choca festival ( see the FAQ ) is the time to watch the weaving and scraping; the rest of the year, the tourist office opens Monday to Saturday, 9 am to noon and 1 to 5 pm.

Driving on to Cilaos

The Dimitile overlooks the Cilaos cirque, but by road you have to head down towards Saint-Louis and climb the hairpins: 41 km and at least an hour. To see both at once, a helicopter flight from Saint-Pierre flies over the cirques.

How this shortlist was put together
  • An Agoda guest score of at least 8 out of 10, based on real stays.
  • Enough reviews for the score to mean something ( usually 30 or more ).
  • Proper places to stay ( hotels, guesthouses, lodges ): private holiday-flat listings are left out.
  • Location checked on the map, in town or just outside it.
  • Scores and prices pulled automatically from Agoda's partner API and refreshed regularly.

The "Check prices" buttons lead to Agoda, a partner of this site: a booking may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Hotels don't pay to be ranked.

FAQ

Staying in Entre-Deux: your questions

What is the best hotel in Entre-Deux?
The Dimitile Hôtel & Spa, the town's only star-rated hotel ( 4 stars since June 2024 ), rated 8.7/10 on Agoda. Beyond hotels, Le Quéléa, a Creole house, scores 9.7/10 from 71 reviews.
Does the Dimitile Hôtel & Spa have air conditioning?
Sources disagree: older listings say yes, while recent reviews mention fans and some hot rooms. Ask when you book if you're coming in the southern summer.
Is the Dimitile Hôtel & Spa expensive?
At our last check, a night started at €130 for two, with breakfast extra. By comparison, the Chez Frida studio was €67 and Le Zèbre à carreaux €81. Rates vary with dates.
Is the Dimitile Hôtel & Spa good for children?
Children are welcome and there are kids' menus, but no dedicated facilities or childcare. With young children, Entr'Deux Gones ( play area, heated pool ) is a better fit.
Where should I stay to hike the Dimitile?
In the village the night before, so you can set off early: everywhere on our list is within about a kilometre of the centre. To sleep on the plateau, the Là-Haut gîte takes hikers and serves home-cooked dinners, and is reached on foot via the trails.
What about the village's other guesthouses?
L'Échappée Belle, opposite the town hall ( pool, hot tub, big garden ), Entre Deux Rêves ( Clévacances label, at the start of the Coteau Sec trail ), Villa Oté in Ravine des Citrons ( dinners on request ) and Villa Ti Moon, facing the Dimitile, didn't make our list: L'Échappée Belle isn't sold by our partner, and the others had too few reviews, a score under 8/10 or no availability when we checked. All of them can also be booked directly.
When is the Choca festival?
Every July, over three or four days; in 2026 it ran from 17 to 19 July. Entry is free: come to watch the choca being woven and scraped, and stay for the concerts.
Which airport is closest to Entre-Deux?
Pierrefonds, 13 km away, about 25 minutes. Roland-Garros is about 91 km by road, nearly 1 h 30 without traffic. Some listings say 64 km and an hour, which undersells the drive.
Where does the name Entre-Deux come from?
The village grew up "between the two" arms of the Saint-Étienne river, the Bras de Cilaos to the west and the Bras de la Plaine to the east. The lambrequins, the wood or metal lacework that trims the Creole roofs and guides the rainwater, were chosen for the town's logo.
