The campsite essentials
A night in a tropical Creole garden
Arrival. The campsite opens onto a small Creole cabin sheltered under banana trees, in a lush tropical garden. The village's calm is immediately obvious: no busy roads, no urban noise, just birdsong and rustling leaves.
The Creole garden. This is the place's number-one draw. The owners grow 45 species of fruit and vegetableson the property: bananas, papayas, mangoes, brèdes (leafy greens), chayotes, young jackfruit, chillies, herbs, and much more. It's a genuine showcase of traditional Creole agroforestry. The hosts happily share their knowledge of the garden.
The pitches. 6 sand pitches(10 tents maximum), each fitted with a table. There are shared gazebos for shelter from sun or rain, shared BBQs and a shared veranda (a traditional “varangue”) for evenings. The atmosphere stays small-scale, and evenings are a chance to connect with other travellers and the hosts.
Creature comforts. Two equipped kitchens are available for cooking your own meals, a washing machine for freshening up laundry between stops, wifiis included across the whole campsite, and the facilities are clean. It's exactly the comfort you want after several days of walking in nearby Mafate or Cilaos.
