In Saint-Gilles, a towable tube ride is one of the easiest ways to have fun on the water in Reunion Island: cheaper than a catamaran cruise, shorter than a snorkelling trip, open to children from age 6, and thrilling enough that kids beg to go again once they're back on the beach.

Only one operator can be booked online by the seat: Cap Evasion 974, at Ponton D in the port, with 30 minutes at €30 or 1 hour at €50. It's rated 5 out of 5 from 6 verified Manawa reviews, takes up to 4 people per tube (sofa, disc, banana or doughnut, your choice) and includes a life jacket and photos. 2026 prices checked as of the update date.

This is the only towable tube ride on the Saint-Gilles lagoon that you can book online, run by Cap Evasion 974 from Ponton D at the port. It's rated 5 out of 5 from 6 verified Manawa reviews, and plenty of travellers look the company up by name to read reviews before booking.

You get 30 minutes on the water, with 1h30 on site in total: check-in, kitting up, a safety briefing, the boat ride from the port to the towing area outside the lagoon, the session itself and the ride back. The boat is driven by a qualified instructor, and the inflatable tube seats up to 4 people, with several styles to choose from: a classic sofa, a disc, a banana or a doughnut. The team needs at least 3 participants to take the boat out.

Who it's for: families with children aged 6 and over (with an adult), groups of friends after 30 minutes of fun between a morning on the beach and lunch at the port, and couples who've never tried it. Who it's not for: anyone prone to seasickness (the tube bounces hard), pregnant women, people with back or neck problems, and anyone afraid of water (you'll get drenched regularly as the tube turns).

Manawa price €30 per person for 30 minutes. If you're in a group and want longer, the same company offers a 1-hour ride at €50 per person (see the package below). Included: an approved life jacket and photos sent via a link afterwards. Flexible cancellation for bad weather: if the instructor can't run the session, you'll be offered another date or a full refund. Bring swimwear, a towel and 100% mineral sunscreen.

This is Cap Evasion 974's longer ride, for groups who want more than a quick 30-minute taster. You get a full hour on the water and 3 hours on site, including check-in, kitting up, the briefing, the outing and the ride back. It's particularly popular for birthdays, hen and stag dos, groups of friends and end-of-holiday treats.

The crew switches between several tube shapes during the hour (sofa, disc, banana, doughnut), and each feels different depending on where you sit and how many of you there are. The instructor adjusts the boat's speed and moves (sharp turns, bumps over the wake) to suit the group. It's on this longer ride that you really feel the difference between the tube types, as 30 minutes only leaves time for one.

Same conditions as the shorter ride: minimum age 6, max 4 people per tube, under-18s with an adult, and at least 3 participants for the trip to go ahead. The boat is driven by a qualified Cap Evasion 974 instructor, leaving from Ponton D at Saint-Gilles port. The same crew and boats also run a €40 snorkelling and swimming with dolphins trip, which you'll find on my snorkelling page.

Manawa price €50 per person for 1 hour, so €20 more than the short ride for twice the time on the water. If your group wants to charter the boat privately or arrange a longer session, contact Cap Evasion 974 directly after a first outing for a tailored quote. The same flexible bad-weather cancellation applies as for the 30-minute ride.

Good to know

What to know before booking

Health restrictions

  • Pregnant women: no, the bumps are too hard.
  • Recent back or neck problems: no.
  • Surgery within the last 3 months: no.
  • A real fear of water: try the 30-minute ride rather than the full hour.

The 3-participant minimum

Cap Evasion 974 requires a minimum of 3 participants to take the boat out. If there are only 1 or 2 of you, the team may put you with other bookings depending on availability, but it's not guaranteed. For a group of 3 or more, the trip is confirmed as soon as you book.

Best time of day

The morning slot (9-11am) usually has the calmest sea and the gentlest sun. The afternoon slot (2-4pm) is still fine, but the wind can whip up the swell in the bay. In high season, morning slots fill up fast, so book a week ahead.

Gear and what to wear

Swimwear under clothes that are easy to take off, a towel, 100% mineral sunscreen (chemical filters are banned in the marine reserve), flip-flops or sandals for the boat, polarised sunglasses secured with a strap, your own water. Long hair tied back. No jewellery that could be lost in the water. The life jacket is provided.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about towable tube rides in Reunion Island

How much is a towable tube ride in Reunion Island in 2026?
Expect €30 per person for a 30-minute session (1h30 on site) with Cap Evasion 974 in Saint-Gilles, and €50 for 1 hour (3h on site). Prices are per person, with a maximum of 4 people per tube and at least 3 participants needed for the trip to go ahead. It's currently the only towable tube ride in Reunion Island that you can book online through my partner links.
What's the minimum age for a towable tube ride?
6 years old with Cap Evasion 974, with an adult. The bumps and the regular soakings can be too much for younger or more nervous children. For water activities from age 4-5, look at a catamaran cruise instead, or the snorkelling trip at Bassin Pirogue in Étang-Salé (also from age 6, but much calmer).
Do you need to be able to swim?
It isn't compulsory, as the crew provides an approved life jacket, but it helps you enjoy it more. The tube regularly bounces over the boat's wake and riders fall off on sharp turns; the life jacket brings you straight back to the surface. If you're very nervous in the water, try the 30-minute ride rather than the full hour.
Where is the meeting point?
At the end of Ponton D, Port de Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, 97434. Check in 30 minutes before your slot; there's parking right by the port. Ponton D is also the departure point for Cap Evasion 974's snorkelling trips and for deep-sea fishing and whale watching trips, so double-check which boat is yours before boarding.
What happens in bad weather?
Cancellation is flexible: "if the instructor can't run the session, you'll be offered another date or a refund." The call is made the evening before or on the morning, depending on the forecast. The coral reef keeps westerly swell in check up to around 1km out, so most days are fine, except in strong wind or heavy swell.
Can I go on a towable tube ride if I'm pregnant or have back pain?
No. A tube ride means hard bumps, slamming into the water and sharp turns. It's not suitable for pregnant women, people with recent back or neck problems, or anyone who's had surgery in the last 3 months. Go for a catamaran cruise or a snorkelling trip from Saint-Gilles instead, for time on the sea without the rough and tumble.
How far ahead should you book?
Outside high season (May-June, September-November, excluding holidays), 2 to 3 days ahead is enough. In high season (July-August, French school holidays, Christmas and New Year), book a week ahead, especially for a group. At least 3 people are needed for the trip to run: if there are only 1 or 2 of you, the team may put you with other bookings, depending on availability.
What should you bring?
Swimwear (under clothes that are easy to take off), a towel, 100% mineral sunscreen (chemical filters are banned in the marine reserve), flip-flops or sandals for the boat, polarised sunglasses and your own water. Tie long hair back. Leave jewellery behind (it can easily be lost in the water).
Towable tube, jet ski or flyboard: which should you choose?
Towable tube: passive, you sit on the tube and the boat does the work (€30 for 30 min, from age 6). Jet ski: active, you drive it yourself (with a boat licence or supervised, from age 16, more expensive). Flyboard: very active and technical, for thrill-seekers (training required). For a first fun water activity in Reunion Island, the towable tube is by far the easiest and cheapest option.
