The experience

A comfortable night facing the cirque

Arriving in Grand-Îlet. This is one of the most authentic villages in the Salazie cirque, away from the tourist crowds of Hell-Bourg. Le Guétali stands on Chemin Camp Pierrot, in a peaceful garden facing the cirque walls. The welcome is one of its hallmarks, praised in almost every Booking review.

The rooms. Comfortable and well equipped, with a private bathroom, a desk, a dressing area and bed linen provided. Each has its own small terrace looking out over the cirque. Morning coffee on the terrace as the sun lights up the cliffs is the highlight of a stay.

Meals and extras. Dinner and breakfast are available on request, with local Creole cooking. Free wifi covers the whole property, which isn't a given in the cirques, and there are wheelchair-accessible facilities, fairly rare in the area.

The garden. It's a favourite spot to unwind. After a day hiking in Mafate or around Piton d'Anchaing, guests gather there to recover, chat with other travellers or read. Peace and quiet is what Le Guétali is all about.
