Saint-Leuis the island's only real paragliding spot, and one of the three best in the world for it, alongside Ölüdeniz in Turkey and Interlaken in Switzerland. You take off from the Le Maïdo cliffs at 1,800m, glide above the lagoon and land on the beach: it's the most immersive way to take to the air on the intense island (Reunion's tourism slogan).

Here are the 2026 prices for the 2 flights bookable on Manawa, the details of each one, genuine verified reviews and tips for choosing according to your budget and preferences.

This is the most tried-and-tested paragliding flight on the island, with 5 out of 5 from 69 verified Manawa reviews and consistently happy customers. You take off from the Le Maïdo cliffs at 1,800m, glide in a full circle above Saint-Leu bay and land gently on the beach. Expect about 20 to 30 minutes in the air, and allow an hour in total for arriving at the base, gearing up, the shuttle up to the cliffs and the return.

Saint-Leu is one of the three best paragliding spots in the world, alongside Ölüdeniz in Turkey and Interlaken in Switzerland, and that's no coincidence: the Le Maïdo cliffs create exceptionally stable thermals, and Saint-Leu bay makes for a cinematic flight above the lagoon, with the coral reef visible below.

Children can fly from age 6, and no skills are needed: the state-qualified instructor flies the wing, sitting behind you in the tandem harness. You get a few instructions for the take-off run (4-5 strides down the slope), then the air takes over. The instructor explains what's happening along the way (the wing, the currents) and often offers a few more thrilling moves towards the end for those who want them (wingovers, spiral descents, no pressure).

What sets it apart: Addict Parapente is the longest-established operator at Saint-Leu and does nothing but paragliding, so the instructors are 100% focused on it. €120 per person on Manawa, with photos and video taken by the instructor included, and flexible cancellation up to 24 hours before.

This flight is run by a different Saint-Leu operator, independent from Addict Parapente, with a different meeting point: you land on the north side of Saint-Leu, right next to Kélonia (the sea turtle observatory), D12 exit on the Route des Tamarins. It's handy if you want to combine paragliding with a Kélonia visit, as the two are 5 minutes' walk apart.

The flight lasts 20 to 25 minutes, also taking off from the cliffs, at about 1,200m. The route follows the west coast and gives a different view from the Addict flight: it stays lower, closer to the lagoon, for a better look at the reef and the coral heads in the turquoise water. At 4.8 from 28 Manawa reviews, it has fewer reviews than the leading offer, but the feedback is solid.

The minimum age here is 13, so it suits teenagers and adults rather than young children. If you're travelling with children under 13, go for the Addict Parapente flight at €120, which takes children from age 6.

€110 on Manawa, €10 more than Addict Parapente's entry-level flight. The difference is mainly down to the more convenient meeting point (Kélonia rather than Saint-Leu town centre) and the option to combine paragliding with the turtle observatory in the same half-day. Flexible cancellation up to 24 hours before.

This is the Funbooker option for trying paragliding at Saint-Leu: €120 per person for a tandem flight with an instructor. Saint-Leu is one of the most famous paragliding spots in the world, thanks to its steady thermals and its landing site facing the lagoon.

How it works: you meet at the take-off site for a briefing, gear up (harness, helmet), take off in tandem into the wind, then enjoy a panoramic flight above the lagoon and coral reef before landing on the beach. Depending on conditions, the flight lasts 15 to 30 minutes.

Who it suits: travellers who want to try paragliding at a world-famous site, families with children from age 8 (flying tandem with an instructor) and photographers after aerial shots of the lagoon. Who it doesn't suit: anyone with a heart condition or an extreme fear of heights, or anyone looking for a training course.

€120 per person on Funbooker, with free cancellation. Included: tandem instructor, full equipment, briefing. Not included: photos and video (optional extra), transport to the site. No reviews published at the time of the last update.

Worth knowing before booking

Why Saint-Leu and not Le Maïdo?

Every flight takes off from the Le Maïdo cliffs at 1,800m, but the landing site and base are at Saint-Leu, on the coast. A shuttle takes you up to the top, and you glide back down over 20 to 40 minutes. That's why this page talks about “Saint-Leu paragliding”: it's the meeting and landing point, not the take-off.

The schools based at Saint-Leu

Several certified operators share the site, with prices and flight times that vary noticeably. Run Parapente is one of these local schools, based at Pointe des Châteaux, with an instructor holding the French DEJEPS paragliding qualification and flights ranging from a 15-minute children's flight to a long flight over Mafate. It's worth comparing before booking: time in the air matters more to the experience than the price shown.

Age and weight

  • From age 6 with Addict Parapente, from 13 with the Kélonia operator.
  • Maximum tandem weight: generally 100kg (wing and harness included). Mention your weight when booking.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult, with a signed parental consent form on the day of the flight.

Season and weather

The dry season (May to November) brings the best wind and visibility. Mornings between 7am and 11am are generally the most stable. From December to February, showers are frequent and flights are often postponed.

Cancellation and weather

Every Manawa offer on this page can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before. If the flight is cancelled because of strong wind or rain, it is moved to another slot, or fully refunded if you are leaving the island.

What to bring

Loose, warm clothing (it's cooler at 1,800m), closed shoes with a grippy sole for the take-off run and sunglasses. Tie long hair back. No shoulder bags.

From a tandem flight to flying solo

A tandem flight requires no training at all. To learn to fly solo, you need a course with a school, spread over 8 to 15 days: specialist schools such as Plaine Altitude run full paragliding courses if you are ready to take the next step.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about paragliding at Saint-Leu

What's the price of a paragliding flight in Reunion Island in 2026?
Expect €120 for the Addict Parapente flight (20-30 min in the air, 5/5 from 69 Manawa reviews) and €110 for the lagoon flight with the other operator, landing at Kélonia (4.8/5 from 28 reviews, from age 13). Both take off from the Le Maïdo cliffs and land at Saint-Leu.
Why is Saint-Leu one of the best paragliding spots in the world?
Three reasons: 1) the Le Maïdo cliffs drop more than 1,800m over 8km, which creates very consistent thermals; 2) Saint-Leu bay has a wide, flat landing area; 3) the tropical climate means you can fly almost all year round. Saint-Leu is regularly ranked in the world's top 3, alongside Ölüdeniz (Turkey) and Interlaken (Switzerland).
From what age can you paraglide at Saint-Leu?
From age 6 with Addict Parapente, and 13 for the Kélonia flight. Children under 6 cannot fly. The minimum weight is generally 25kg, because of the tandem harness.
Do you need to book well in advance?
In low season (May-June, September-November), a week ahead is enough. In high season (July-August, school holidays), book 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Morning flights (7am-10am) are the most in demand, as conditions are most stable then.
What happens in bad weather?
Instructors cancel flights in strong wind or rain. The flight is usually moved to another slot within the week, or refunded if you are leaving the island. Check the forecast with the operator the day before.
What's the best time of year for paragliding in Reunion Island?
The dry season (May to November) brings the best wind and visibility. Mornings between 7am and 11am are generally more stable, while afternoons can get turbulent. Avoid December to February, when showers are frequent.
How long does the whole activity take?
Allow 1 hour on site: 15 minutes to arrive and gear up, 20 minutes on the shuttle up to the Le Maïdo cliffs, 20-40 minutes of flight depending on the option, then you make your own way back from Saint-Leu beach.
Are there weight limits?
The maximum weight for a tandem flight is generally 100kg (including wing and harness), depending on the operator. Above that, some operators use a stronger wing and others decline the flight. Give your weight when booking to avoid a nasty surprise.
What should you wear for a paragliding flight?
Loose, warm clothing (it's cooler at 1,800m), closed shoes with a grippy sole for the take-off run and sunglasses. Tie long hair back. No shoulder bags, which get in the way of the equipment.
